Boy's Cross Country Head Coach: Scott McGrath

About the Coach: Scott grew up running cross country and track for ConVal High School where he became the individual Division II state champion in cross country in 2003 and set Division II state records for 1500 and 3000 meters in 2003 and 2004. Scott competed for Bentley University and the University of New Hampshire and began coaching in 2009 at Hopkinton Middle School. Later, Scott was assistant coach for Oyster River in 2011 when the Bobcats won state championships in cross country as well as indoor track. Scott has coached and trained over 50 Boston Marathon finishers and for the past three years has served as the head cross country and distance coach at Oyster River. Under his guidance, the Bobcats have earned two runners-up and one state champion finish in cross country and sent one athlete to the prestigious Footlocker Cross Country National Championships in San Diego. Scott’s coaching philosophy is centered in the long-term development of athletes of all abilities and he sees a bright future for Oyster River Cross Country in the seasons ahead.

About the Coach: 
Nicole grew up on Cape Cod competing in a variety of sports including soccer, basketball, gymnastics and track.  Following high school Nicole attended the University of Massachusetts as a triple jumper before moving to the middle distances in her sophomore year. She competed in cross country and indoor/outdoor track for the remainder of her time at Umass.  Nicole graduated Umass with a dual degree in Sport Management and Exercise Science. She continued her education at UNH where she earned a Masters in Kinesiology. At UNH she served as a grad asst. coach on the women’s cross country / track teams.  Following grad school, Nicole started a real estate business and a family, before getting back into the track world about 5 years ago where she has spent her time volunteering for local elementary and middle school running programs. Nicole believes in taking a multi-discipline approach to running with a focus combining strength training, form work and flexibility with progressive speed and distance workouts.
