The Counselor's Role

The Oyster River High School Counseling Department empowers students with skills to foster a nurturing community while ensuring access and equity for all students. Through a deliberate, comprehensive program, students are supported to achieve full academic and social-emotional success while navigating the path to reach their future career goals and aspirations. Counselors collaborate with all stakeholders to inspire students’ academic success, career readiness, and wellness. Counselors promote an environment where students are educated, ethical, responsible citizens by delivering data-informed programming which reflects our school culture and climate, along with the uniqueness of every learner.

What does your school counselor do?
School counselors are charged with providing classroom, large group, small group, and individual programming geared towards the academic, social/emotional, and career development of every student. The ORHS Counseling Department has worked hard at detailing their work in the form of an annual calendar, and also as visuals broken down by the three big broad domains above. Please find the documents below, as well as more information on school counselors in general!
